The audio for Dead Island 2 on PC is mostly configured within Windows before launching the game.
The game should update when Audio settings are changed in Windows, however in some cases you
may need to restart the game for settings to apply properly.
Note. The game has been optimised to sound best when using the Windows Spatial Audio formats
such as Dolby Atmos or DTS:X for speakers or headphones.
Accessing Sound Settings In Windows
To Access sound settings in Windows simply right click on the system volume icon in the tool tray
and select Sounds
In the Sounds window that appears, right click on your appropriate output device and select
Configure Speakers
Within the Speaker Setup window that appears you can select an appropriate configuration, options
may vary depending on what audio device and software is installed.
The following audio setups in Dead Island 2 are tested and supported
- Stereo Speakers
- 5.1 Surround Speakers
- 7.1 Surround Speakers
- Dolby Atmos For Home Theater
- Stereo Headphones
- Windows Sonic for Headphones
- Dolby Atmos for Headphones
- DTS Headphone:X

Stereo Speakers
Within the Windows Configure Speaker Setup window ensure that the stereo audio channels option
is selected. A minimum config for this may look something like this
Whereas a connected receiver may present many more choices to select from
Complete the speaker setup by selecting Next and selecting appropriate options.
Ensure that Spatial Sound is disabled by right clicking on the volume icon in the tooltray and ensuring
that it says that Spatial Sound is off
The game should now be working in Stereo speaker mode correctly.

5.1 Surround Speakers
Within the Windows Configure Speaker Setup window select the appropriate 5.1 speaker setup that
you have (either side or rear speaker layout)
Again ensure that Spatial Sound is off in the right click menu of the volume icon in the tooltray
The game should now be working in the appropriate 5.1 speaker mode correctly.

7.1 Surround Speakers
Within the Windows Configure Speaker Setup window select the 7.1 speaker setup
Again ensure that Spatial Sound is off in the right click menu of the volume icon in the tooltray
The game should now be working in the appropriate 7.1 speaker mode correctly.

Dolby Atmos Speakers
Dolby Atmos for home theatre should be configurable by installing the Dolby Access app from the
Windows Microsoft Store

Once setup you should then if required within the Windows Configure Speaker Setup window you
should then be able to select the Dolby Atmos for home theater setup
Once completed you should see this configuration active in the spatial sound settings that can be
easily seen from the right click menu on the volume icon in the tooltray
The game should now be working with optimal sound quality for speakers with Dolby Atmos on your
Dolby Atmos compatible surround sound receiver

Stereo Headphones
Stereo headphones are setup the same way as described for Stereo Speakers. There may be
additional options for your soundcard that specifically supports headphones versus speakers.

Windows Sonic for Headphones
After configuring the audio device to Stereo you can then enable Spatial Sound for headphones by
using the built in Windows Sonic for Headphones option.
To do so right click on the volume icon in the tooltray and select the Spatial sound option and then
select the Windows Sonic for Headphones option
You can always see what Spatial sound mode you have selected by looking at the right click menu
and seeing what Spatial Sound is set to. It must show Spatial sound (Windows Sonic for Headphones)
for this to be active.
The game should now be working with Windows Sonic Spatial sound over headphones.

Dolby Atmos for Headphones
Dolby Atmos for headphones should be configurable by installing the Dolby Access app from the

Once configured the audio device speaker setup can be left setup to stereo and then you just need
to ensure that Dolby Atmos for Headphones is setup in the spatial sound options.

select the Dolby Atmos for Headphones option

Once configured the audio device speaker setup can be left setup to stereo and then you just need
to ensure that DTS Headphone: X is setup in the spatial sound options.

select the DTS Headphone: X option

and seeing what Spatial Sound is set to. It must show Spatial sound (DTS Headphone:X) for this to be

The game should now be working with optimal sound quality for headphones with DTS Headphone:X
sound over headphones.
