Dead Island 2 features both single-player and multiplayer modes. Players can enjoy the game solo or team up with friends for some cooperative zombie-slaying fun.

Is it possible to play cross-play with friends?
Dead Island 2 has cross-play functionality for PC versions only, so it is possible for friends to play together on Steam and Epic Games.

Do I need Epic Games Launcher to play Dead Island 2 on Steam?
The Epic Games Launcher isn't required to play the game. If you prefer enjoying either single-player or multiplayer with other Steam users, you won't need the Epic Games Launcher.

However, for crossplay with players who own the game on Epic, linking to your Epic Games Account is necessary to sync up friends lists.

Additionally, if players wish to unlock extras through PROS (such as skins, etc.), they will NOT need to link an Epic account.

Can I deactivate cross-play?
You can activate and deactivate the cross-play function in the settings.

Which platforms do I play with when I join a quick game?
When you join a quick game, you will be added to a session that includes both Steam and Epic Games players.

Are there any DLCs or special editions?

Game Compatibility
Dead Island 2 is Playable on the Steam Deck and has been tested for smooth gameplay without significant bugs.

Cross-Play with Epic Games
Cross-play with Epic Games players is possible, but it may require some initial setup.

Font Size Adjustment
Note that font size adjustment is not supported in the game on the Steam Deck.

How do I bring up the virtual keyboard?
When the game requires you to enter details you may need to bring up the virtual keyboard manually. A handy shortcut for this is Steam + X.

How do I bring up the keyboard for the Epic overlay?
The epic overlay is accessed by pressing L4, and controlled with mouse and keyboard input via the right track-pad.

My games hangs (endlessly loads) the first time I start it. What’s the fix?
There is a known issue which may affect the game the first time start it on Steam where the game may hang while loading into the game.  If you quit the game and reboot, it should work just fine. Our partners at Valve are looking into a fix for this.

Crossplay and Account Linking

Where the crossplay option is, what does it do, and how do I use it?

• Dead Island 2 has crossplay between only epic and Steam on PC, which is accessible through the ‘Continue Game’ screen with a toggle-able on/off switch, and in the online option screen on the main menu (not in-game)
• You may need to restart you game to ensure the crossplay connection is enabled once you have toggled this option.
• Please note the game does not have crossplay between different consoles (i.e. Playstation and Xbox)

How do I open the EOS Overlay?
Shift + F3 opens the epic games overlay.

The game is saying ‘Epic Online Services could not be found’. What do I do?
This can occur if you have uninstalled and re-installed EOS, or deleted EOS. Verifying your game files in Steam or reinstalling EOS should fix any EOS errors.
