Why might I encounter connection errors with Epic Online Services starting October 1, 2025?
Starting October 1, 2025, Amazon Web Services (AWS) will update the security certificates used by Epic Online Services (EOS). The older "Starfield Class 2" root certificate will be replaced with the new "Starfield Services Root G2" certificate. If your Windows system does not have this new certificate installed, games that use Epic Online Services may no longer be able to connect.
Which games and players are affected?
- Games on Windows that still run an EOS SDK version earlier than 1.17.1.3 are affected.
- If your Windows system does not include the new certificate, you may experience connection issues such as login failures or disconnections.
How can I avoid issues?
To ensure uninterrupted play after October 1, 2025, we recommend the following steps:
Update the Epic Games Launcher
- If you have the Epic Games Launcher installed, update it to the latest version and launch it at least once.
- Over the next two weeks, Epic will add additional functionality to the Launcher to automatically mitigate this certificate issue.
Keep Windows up to date
- Install the latest Windows updates.
- This will automatically add the new root certificate ("Starfield Services Root G2").
Install the certificate manually (only if necessary)
- If automatic updates are not possible or the certificate is missing, you can add it manually.
-
Open Command Prompt or PowerShell as an administrator and run the following command:
curl https://account-public-service-prod03.ol.epicgames.com/account/
(See. Why are some players reporting a certificate issue when connecting to Epic Online Services?)
Do I need to do anything in the game itself?
No. You do not need to change any in-game settings. The key is to ensure your Windows system and, if applicable, the Epic Games Launcher are up to date.
I have installed all updates but still have issues—what should I do?
If you still cannot connect to Epic Online Services despite being up to date:
- Restart your PC and test the connection again.
- Make sure your system date and time are correct.
- Contact our support team if the issue persists. Please include which version of Windows you are using and whether you have already updated the Epic Games Launcher.
